Here are some "spooktacular" tips to make Sight Night a blast:
If you're "spooking" solo:
- Make a collection bag to take door-to-door
- Draw a pumpkin with peepers on paper grocery bags or an old pillowcase
- Add a pair of eyeglasses to your plastic pumpkin
- Wear your glasses or oversized costume glasses during Sight Night.
- Dress up like an eyeball or a large pair of glasses
- Make funny frames with foam, feathers and glitter
If you're "spooking" as a group:
- Offer a raffle drawing with prizes for volunteers.
- Create a group collection challenge and provide a pizza or ice cream party for the winning group.
- Host a Halloween scavenger hunt for used eyewear and ask everyone to bring a pair for admission.
- Ask for used glasses when selling or collecting items for your school or organization.
- Participate in Sight Night to earn community service hours for school or a community service badge from your troop.
Tips for Schools: Make Education Fun with Sight Night.
- Use this opportunity to study the eye and how it works
- Be culturally diverse: Choose one of the many developing countries Gift of Sight visits on International missions and study their culture as a class. Or, have each student do a report on one of our mission countries. What you learn may "open your eyes."
Collect at School or with your Classmates:
- Trick or treat for used eyewear during homeroom or first period of school. Be sure to hang flyers or make announcements the week before Halloween so your classmates can "scare up" used eyewear at home.
- Partner elementary students with high school students to earn community service hours during trick-or-treat.
- Involve school organizations, such as student council, sports teams, drama club, band or choir.
