Each year, Give the Gift of Sight volunteers, Optometrists and Ophthalmologists, in partnership with Lions Clubs International members, hand-deliver eye exams and recycled eyewear to underpriviliged individuals in developing countries around the world. These two-week missions are each designed to help nearly 20,000 people.
Eyewear distributed on Give the Gift of Sight international missions is collected in Luxottica Retail stores, through Lions Clubs International, community organizations and participating eye doctors across North America. This eyewear is then recycled by Luxottica Group employees and logged into a computer inventory management system, which gives team members greater accuracy and efficiency in distribution.
Our international missions would not be possible without the support of our co-sponsor, Lions Clubs International. Lions Clubs International members are our in-country hosts, whose support is invaluable in the success of Gift of Sight missions. In-country members select and prepare clinic sites and identify and transport local recipients to the clinics. In-country Lions also arrange mission team accommodations, assist with customs and provide translators and security for the team.
